SMM 2018 to highlight environment-friendly shipping

Maritime trade fair SMM exhibits innovative "green technologies

More than 2,200 exhibitors and 50,000 visitors are expected at SMM, the world’s leading maritime trade fair underway in Hamburg from September 4-7, 2018. The maritime industry is now addressing environmental protection in view of low-sulphur fuel, decarbonisation, ballast water management and in response to stringent international limits. Exhibitors will be presenting innovative “green” technologies and experts will discuss the latest trends in conferences during the fair.

Alternative technologies

Leading manufacturers will present solutions for low-emission drives at SMM with emphasis on liquefied natural gas (LNG), which is seen as a bridging technology to zero-emission shipping. Leading companies in ballast water management will also be at the fair and experts at the stands will give in-depth information.

Innovative products, interesting conferences

Sustainability is one of the cross-cutting themes at this year’s SMM. Environmental aspects will feature in numerous, specialist conferences especially at the Global Maritime Environmental Congress (gmec) on September 5, 2018. Under the motto “Compliance – Control – Champions”, everything revolves around current and challenges in future amid tougher regulations. Experts will discuss more cautious use of deep-sea natural resources at the Offshore Dialogue on September 6, 2018.
