Speed dating is in growing demand among firms in Hamburg where it is considered an efficient way of recruiting young trainees. Nowadays, companies have to prove attractive to reach qualified applicants.
Three speed dates from April to June
The Chamber of Crafts is holding a speed dating round for trainees from 2 pm to 5 pm on April 15, 2016. Representatives of some 20 companies are expected to outline trainee places in 30 occupations such as beautician, electrician in the energy and building technology sector or mechatronic engineers in SP system and high-voltage technology.
Around 500 youths and representatives of 60 companies attended last year’s event. Trainee places on offer ranged from media designer, IT specialist to shipping business clerk or industrial clerks. The third round will be held on June 3, 2016 from 9 am to 2 pm on the floor of the Chamber of Commerce in Hamburg.
Meanwhile, the focus of “Economics Speed Dating Hamburg” at the Hamburg School of Business Administration will be on dual-system study places in Business Administration, Logistics Management, Maritime Management, Media Management or Business Informatics. A dual-system course of study combines theory at a third-level educational institution or vocational academies with practical phases in companies with which the HSBA co-operates meaning potential students apply to both. More than 20 firms have announced their attendance at the next “Economics Speed Dating Hamburg”.
Talks every ten minutes
Every ten minutes (every seven minutes in the Chamber of Crafts), applicants and company representatives present themselves to each other. They switch to the next person as soon as a bell rings. Ten minutes is apparently enough to get a first impression of each other. The company representative describes the company briefly and the trainee position offered while the youths explain their motives, experience and their objectives. Another more in-depth talk focuses on social skills such as capacity for teamwork, independence and commitment.
