The Hamburg Messe and Congress GmbH drew a positive summary at the closing of Seatrade Europe 2015 in Hamburg. Rising passenger numbers, higher sales, full order books: the European cruise market is booming, with no end in sight.“The conditions for Seatrade Europe could hardly be better,” said Bernd Aufderheide, President and CEO Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH as organiser of the convention. The cruise industry is flourishing worldwide – “Holidays on the water are the fastest growing travel segment. In Europe alone, the market has grown by an impressive 44 per cent since 2008,” added Aufderheide. A total of 6.4 million guests from Europe went on board of cruise vessels in European ports last year.
Some 5,000 International Participants
Around 5,000 visitors visited the Hamburg fair grounds for Seatrade Europe this year (2013: more than 4,000). “The Seatrade Europe perfectly fits into our event portfolio. Through th close co-operation with the Hamburg Cruise Days, Hamburg thus significantly emphasises its international role in the cruise world “,said Aufderheide. 250 exhibitors from 50 nations showcased their products, services and innovations. For three days, the whole bandwidth of the cruise industry was presented in Hamburg – shipyards, equipment manufacturers, kitchen equipment and fitting suppliers, IT and communication systems, classification systems, destinations, ports and shore excursion operators.
Seatrade Cruise Awards Granted
A highlight of the trade fair and congress was the presentation of the Seatrade Cruise Awards. In 2015, the prize was awarded to Michael Ungerer, Chief Operations Officer Shared Services Carnival Asia and President of the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Germany, in recognition of his merits for the German cruise market as “Seatrade Cruise Personality of the Year”.
The next Seatrade Europe will take place at the Hamburg fair grounds from 6-8 September 2017.
