Nine private theatres to get grants

Ministry of Culture and Media sets aside EUR 240,000 in grants for nine productions

An independent jury has recommended nine private theatre productions as recipients of EUR 240,000 in funds from the Ministry of Culture and Media in 2018/2019. The funds will be in addition to institutional funding. The Cultural Authority is allocating the funds after experts evaluated the applicants on behalf of the authority.

Unique theatre scene

Commenting on the decision, Dr. Carsten Brosda, State Councillor for Culture, said: “Hamburg has a unique private theatre scape in terms diversity and character. Apart from state theatres, the private theatres offer the people of Hamburg and the city’s guests a great choice of different events every evening. We want to promote this diversity with the grants for which there were many excellent applications again this year.”

Special funding

The jury did not make its recommendations lightly. Brosda added. “I am looking forward to the nine productions recommended for special funding and that will enrich the upcoming repertoires this season.”
