The “Planten un Blomen” park in the heart of the city will become even more attractive by a one-hectare extension envisaged in the frame of CCH Hamburg’s modernisation. The Berlin office POLA Landscape Architects, named winner of an architectural contest for the extensions of Hamburg’s large inner city park, presented its design at the Bucerius Law School.
Green Spaces on Underground Access
As part of the revitalisation of the Congress Center Hamburg (CCH) due to be completed by 2019, the access road to the underground parking shared by CCH and Radission hotel, will become superfluous. Thus, the road that cuts through the park like a canyon can be filled, thereby creating an additional one hectare plot ready to be turned into parklands. On the southwest of the train station Dammtorbahnhof, also the Dag Hammarskjöld Square will be redesigned. Proposal for this projects were subject of the competition launched by the Hamburg Ministry of Urban Development and Environment in March.
Exhibition of Designs
28 architect office participated in the contest and submitted ideas for four hectares of land under planning, with the aim of completing all landscape works in time for the grand reopening of the CCH in 2019.
