HamburgAmbassadors meeting in city

Honorary representatives of Hanseatic city meeting under theme of "Cruise Metropolis"

Around 28 HamburgAmbassadors are arriving from as far afield as New Zealand, Argentina, Scandinavia and the United States for the annual meeting of international representatives from May 5-8, 2019 under the theme of Cruise Metropolis.

Agenda

Topics on this year’s agenda include visits to the shore-side power plant at the Cruise Center Altona and the HHLA Container Terminal in Altenwerder, while the Cruise Gate Hamburg will outline sustainability in cruises. The HamburgAmbassadors network is crucial to positioning Hamburg as a sustainable cruise metropolis, said Dr. Rolf Strittmatter, Chairman of the Management Board of Hamburg Marketing GmbH. The Hanseatic city strives to be one of Europe’s most environment-friendly cruise ports and “Hamburg is taking on a pioneering role by commissioning the shore-side power plant and LNG supply.” The international representatives will also learn about events in the run-up to the ITS World Congress, which Hamburg is hosting in 2021.

Sustainable cruise metropolis

Cruise shipping was founded in 1891 by the Hamburg ship-owner Albert Ballin, records show. The fast steamer “Augusta Victoria” embarked on the first ever pleasure cruise from the Port of Hamburg to the Mediterranean Sea. “The port has established Hamburg’s reputation. Today, it is not only an international economic hub. The upcoming Port Anniversary celebrations and the worldwide unique Cruise Week Cruise Days in September 2019 are major maritime events that show Hamburg’s best side with its pictures and stories,” Strittmatter noted.
