Germany’s largest games industry network, gamecity:Hamburg, is organising the joint event

“Ready to play: discover the world” is the leitmotif of this year’s gamescom at Cologne. For the eleventh consecutive year, Germany’s largest games industry network, gamecity:Hamburg, is organising the joint participation of Hamburg-based companies at gamescom. From 13 to 17. August 2014, 14 exhibitors will be presenting themselves under the roof of gamecity:Hamburg roof. Again, more companies from Hamburg are appearing at gamescom than in the previous year at the biggest Gamecity booth yet, covering some 375 square metre stand in the business area of hall 4.2. The joint Hamburg stand will open to trade visitors and the press on Wednesday, and from 14 to 17 August to the general public. The fair organiser expects 700 exhibitors and more than 300.000 visitors from more than 80 countries.

A true Hamburg tradition: the Fish Sandwich Reception

A downright legendary highlight of gamecity:Hamburg’s activities at the show is the traditional Fish Sandwich Reception. This year, it will be held on 15 August, at 12 a.m. “However, the Hamburg stand is not only known for its fish sandwiches. But also for all the novelties presented here. Also in 2014, we invite trade visitors to make new contacts or look for qualified personnel”, says Stefan Klein, managing director of gamecity:Hamburg.

Compared to last year, the Hamburg stand grew by 65 square metres and two new partners. Premium exhibitors at the Hamburg stand are Gamigo Advertising, InnoGames, InternetQ, and PlayaGames. On gamecity:Hamburg

With more than 2,000 members, gamecity:Hamburg is the largest German network of the booming sector in the creative industries. “Harbour of the games industry” is the heading under which the gamecity:Hamburg project has provided targeted support to the local games sector since 2003. This division of the initiative nextMedia.Hamburg was established with the intention of developing Hamburg into an attractive location for the computer games industry. The plan is working: Since the inception of gamecity:Hamburg, the number of jobs in the games-related value creation chain has increased from 800 to about 4,000. gamecity:Hamburg operates as a public-private partnership and is headed by its co-founder Stefan Klein.

Sixteen years ago, Hamburg displayed pioneering spirit by founding the Hamburg@work initiative for the new
digital economy. Now, this work is taken to a new level with the initiative nextMedia.Hamburg, which is implemented and advanced in a co-operation between the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the registered association Hamburg@work, and interested companies.
