Hamburg has climbed 12 places in the rank of European cities and 22 places worldwide, according to the highly anticipated International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) annual ranking published Tuesday (May 8, 2017).
Elbe city among top 50 destinations
The ICCA is the top international organisation for the MICE sector and conducts extensive market studies every year. The city rankings are met with keen interest as they draw worldwide attention to event planners, media and association organisations in the MICE sector.
In 2016, Hamburg held 54 meetings relevant to ICCA – a rise of 17 events over 2015 and putting the Elbe city in 47th place up from 69th in the city ranking. Hamburg has now secured a place among the top 50 destinations. Compared to other European cities, Hamburg has climbed from 37th to 25th place.
Statistics reflect competence and image
ICCA counts only international, regular association congresses with at least 50 participants and that are rotated between a minimum of three countries. The statistics highlight new trends and in-demand destinations and reflect competence and image. A good position in the city ranking can influence a customer’s choice of a venue for an event and have long-term, positive effects on a destination.
