First Hamburg Motor Classics getting underway

Walter Röhrl and former rally and auto racing drivers expected at big fair

Former rally and auto racing driver Walter Röhrl is among the celebrities expected at the first Hamburg Motor Classics in the exhibition halls from October 13-15, 2017. Invited by MSC Trittau, Röhrl is the only German World Rally Champion and will be accompanied by his long-time co-pilot Christian Geistdörfer. Klaus-Joachim “Jochi” Kleint, the former European Rally Champion, and his co-driver Gunter Wanger, are also expected in Hamburg’s Messe.

Röhrl’s Audi Sport Quattro among attractions

Cars driven by the former champions will also go on show. “They include a replica of the Audi Sport Quattro driven by Walter Röhrl at Pikes Peak in 1987,” said Klaus Frieg, spokesman for MSC Trittau. In 1987, Röhrl set up a new record in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado where Kleint also competed in a 500 PS-strong Golf II with two engines. Kleint’s Opel Ascona B rally car will also be among the exhibits.

Champions in Hamburg

Röhrl won the European Championship in 1974 and the World Championships in 1980 and 1982. Geistdörfer was his co-driver for many years. Kleint’s greatest success was his win at the European Rally Championship in 1979 with his co-pilot Wanger. In 1981, Kleint came third at the Monte Carlo Rally in his Opel Ascona.
