Digital product development - best cases at HAW

Digitalisation of value-added chains proves challenging for SMEs

The University of Applied Sciences (HAW) is hosting the “Forum Digital Product Development“ on June 6, 2018 at HAW Hamburg to help SMEs who face the problem of how to identify a strategy for digitialization and defined for an individual company. How should that strategy be implemented successfully? Digitalization continues to be on everyone’s lips. Stimulated and typified by the catchword Industry 4.0, German business in the first instance sees this as the digitization of production and logistics. While the providers of digitization solutions are offering increasingly multifaceted and more powerful solutions, the forum aims to investigate precisely this issue.

Focus on exchanging of views among participants

A direct exchange of views between the participants will for this reason be at the centre of the event, which is taking place under the auspices of the Mittelstand 4.0 Centre of Competence in Hamburg (Mittelstand 4.0 Kompetenzzentrum). Speakers from medium-sized production companies and service providers will present examples and provide suggestions, views and tools on how the big issue of digitalisation in product development can be approached in a targeted and simultaneously pragmatic way.

Professor Dr. Ing. Hans-Joachim Schelberg, the organizer and Zead of the Institute for Construction and Product Development at HAW Hamburg, said: “In the first instance, we aim to identify optimal approaches to the introduction of digital process chains and to discuss them with each other.” The forum will include an exhibition of selected solution components for digital product development.

Blockchain technology at Hamburg Media School

The Hamburg Media School is also holding a workshop about blockchain technology on June 21, 2018. Participants learn the basics of the technology and applications for future use. Experts from the Fraunhofer Blockchain Lab, a multi-disciplinary unit that designs, develops and evaluates blockchain applications, will help participants develop innovative uses of the technology. Meanwhile, fans of bitcoin and blockchain can look forward to several conferences in Hamburg focusing on the technology including Unchain Hamburg from May 31-June 1 and the Distribute Conference on June 28-29, 2018 featuring all kinds of keynotes and workshops.
