City of Hamburg hosting joint booth for Ukrainian and German start-ups

The City of Hamburg is hosting a joint booth for 12 Ukrainian start-ups and 12 from Germany at the OMR Expo from May 9-10, 2023 in Hamburg. A total of 24 start-ups were selected from 40 applicants to the Startup City Hamburg platform. The leading, digital Online Marketing Rockstars (OMR) festival gives them an opportunity to present their business ideas to potential customers and investors and to raise their visibility. Around 70,000 delegates are expected at this year's festival.

Start-ups at OMR

Startup City Hamburg had organised the call for applications with the Ukrainian Startup Fund and selected start-ups specialising in digital technology, marketing and green technology. The founders will present their ideas in Hall A4, Stands B.09.1 to B.09.8. The exhibiting start-ups have already garnered international attention. Melt Water Club, for instance, hopes to make drinking water treatment more sustainable with its freezing technology while the Releaf Paper focuses on leaf fibres as a sustainable alternative to wood cellulose for paper production.

Opportunities in Hamburg

"OMR is the family festival of the digital and online economy," said Dr Melanie Leonhard, Senator for Economics. The joint booth will allow exhibitors to share their ideas, technologies and expertise and to build long-term partnerships. "Our city offers an attractive international, innovative environment and a high standard of living. The many reasons should motivate the talented professionals of today and tomorrow," she added. Hamburg's vibrant start-up ecosystem and several funding schemes are designed to help international start-ups settle in the city. Emphasis is on business ideas in the green technology sector including the Future Hamburg Award and the Scaleup Landing Pad.

Startup City promoting global founders

"The Startup City Hamburg platform makes all the key information about Hamburg as a centre of start-ups accessible," said Dr Rolf Strittmatter, Managing Director of Hamburg Invest. Global founders benefit from the city's support and receive information about funding schemes and investors as well as advisory services. "The joint initiative for start-ups in Hamburg and from Ukraine gives fledgling, promising companies custom-made offers," he added. The joint booth at OMR should boost the exchange between start-ups and ease the access to the EU market from Hamburg.
