Hamburg sees rise in hybrid and virtual events in wake of corona

Hamburg News presents some on the spot, virtual and hybrid events

More and more event organisers are cautiously mulling face-to-face events while others are developing innovative hybrid formats that combine live and digital events amid the corona pandemic.

Corona crisis triggering novel formats

After a five-month break, the Hamburg@work initiative is holding a first face-to-face business brunch, which has since been fully booked, on August 11, 2020. Various digital formats including online workshops on artificial intelligence (AI) or the Twenty2xvirtual - digital impulses webinar series will be held parallel to the events. These free webinars provide SMEs and the public with information on trending digital topics. The annual eHealth Day 2020 is being organised by Gesundheitswirtschaft Hamburg GmbH as a hybrid event this year. The first part will go digital on August 26 while the second part will be held at Hamburg's Chamber of Commerce on December 2, 2020.

Wacken as a mixed-reality show

This year's Wacken Open Air Festival (July 29 to August 1, 2020) is going digital and promising free world premieres, the  biggest festival ever, authentic online experiences as the Wacken World Wide despite corona. The festival promises a concentrated mix of metal music thanks to mixed reality! All the bands will perform exclusive concerts which will be recorded on live, spectacular digital stages and then streamed to audiences watching in their living rooms or gardens. The digital streaming event promises an entirely new Wacken experience.

Waterborne events aboard the Mare Frisum

The Mare Frisum, which is moored in the Speicherstadt, can finally hoist its sails again and welcome guests for brunch amid rigorous hygiene conditions. "We are delighted to be able to experience at least part of the season on the water and especially with our guests despite the special situation this year," said Maximilian H. Karl, Managing Director of Nord Event GmbH. The Mare Frisum is constantly waterborne in summer and offers brunch and barbecue trips, company events or maritime events to coincide with the Port of Hamburg anniversary celebrations.

Scoopcamp 2020 goes digital and analogue

NextMedia.Hamburg and Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa,  the organisers of Scoopcamp 2020 on September 24, are also preparing to host a hybrid event. Tickets to the master class in the Kehrwieder Theatre in HafenCity are limited to comply with corona regulations. However, interested delegates can watch the free digital conference online provided they register beforehand.
