30 years of German unity on 30 days - sea container symbolises Hamburg

All 16 German states, constitutional bodies and other partners presented Saturday, October 3, 2020 installations, exhibits or city cubes in downtown Potsdam to celebrate the 30th anniversary of German reunification on the great day itself. The corona pandemic and stringent rules on hygiene had forced the host city of Potsdam to come up with an alternative open-air exhibition called the “EinheitsExpo” or “Unity Exhibition” under the theme of 30 years - 30 days - 30x Germany" from September 5-October 4, 2020 and which could also be viewed online. A glass sea container symbolized Hamburg.

Hamburg "pearl of the north"

The Hanseatic city showed how nature, urban life and especially life by the sea go hand in hand and portrayed Hamburg as the "pearl of the north". The city's coastline and cranes in the Port of Hamburg welcomed visitors with typical harbour sounds, a sailor and the traditional Hanseatic "moin" greeting. A sandy beach by the Elbe was dotted with a ship propeller, driftwood, seaweed and an old suitcase. Moving images shone the spotlight on Hamburg and sights in the city and its partners. Visitors also had an opportunity to play a contactless lottery to win one of three trips to Hamburg. These events are all part of the campaign to restart tourism in Hamburg and boost the sector under the theme "Because we are Hamburg".
