Global blockchain scene to meet in Hamburg for "Blockchance 2021"

Summit in Chamber of Commerce to focus on NFTs, green technology, digital assets from December 2-4

More than 4,000 delegates including blockchain and AI experts, developers, investors, CEOs and advisors from the EU Commission are expected in Hamburg for the hybrid Blockchance Europe 2021 underway in the Chamber of Commerce from December 2-4. Emphasis will be on the latest trends, opportunities and challenges of blockchain technology, green technology, Non-Fungible Token (NFT) art and Digital Central Bank Money. Held under the auspices of Dr Peter Tschentscher, Mayor of Hamburg, the event is the largest in Germany to focus on distributed ledger technology (DLT). Fabian Friedrich, CEO of Blockchance, and the senate are keen on transforming Hamburg into a pivotal European blockchain centre.

Keynotes by top speakers

"Blockchain is a forward-looking technology that makes digital processes in finance, trade and industry more secure. The development of new technologies is a key part of the senate's innovation strategy, with which we want to assist companies with their digital transformation," Tschentscher stressed. The City of Hamburg is leading the way in terms of blockchain projects in Germany. Delegates at the conference, which is being held under 2G rules meaning the fully-vaccinated or those who have recovered from Covid-19 will be admitted, can expect more than 100 keynote speakers and over 50 exhibitors. "To make the conference more interesting, the keynote sessions will be transformed into informal talks with the most important German media representatives in business and blockchain," said Friedrich. Speakers include Joseph Lubin, founder of Etheureum, and investment strategist Raoul Pal, who has created a kind of "Netflix of Finance" with Real Vision, Marc Buckley, advisor to the UN and the World Economic Forum, Björn-Sören Gigler, Senior Digital Innovation Officer of the European Commission, and Lukas Repa, Senior Policy Officer Fintech and Blockchain of the European Commission, among others. Three international policy advisors will also have their say at Blockchance.

NFT art, blockchain kindergarten and deep dives

The agenda features workshops, deep dives, "ask-me-anything" seminars with experts (December 3), talks on investment opportunities in cryptocurrencies (December 3) and sessions on Europe's role in decentralisation. During the so-called Blockchain Kindergarten on Saturday, children will explain blockchain and decentralisation to adults. The conference also features an NFT art exhibition with crypto interpretations of famous paintings such as the Mona Lisa. Digital objects can become unique once registered on the blockchain and potentially valuable assets. The agenda of Blockchance 2021 is now online.

The blockchain is a system in which a record of transactions made in bitcoin or another cryptocurrency is maintained across several computers that are linked in a peer-to-peer network. The database is expanded chronologically in a linear fashion, comparable to a chain to which new elements are constantly added at the bottom end - hence the term 'blockchain'. Once a block is complete, the next one is created. Each block contains a checksum of the previous block to protect the technology from manipulation.
