BlueInvest becomes latest maritime event in Hamburg

EU Commission to bring start-ups, scale-ups and SMEs together with investors

The European Commission is to host the hybrid "Blue Invest for the Baltic” event on October 13, 2022 at the Factory Hammerbrooklyn to give start-ups, scale-ups and SMEs an opportunity to network with investors. The Hamburg-based start-ups Hasytec and Skysails Power will pitch their business models during the event dedicated to companies in the Baltic Sea region.

Speakers from business and politics

Supporting events will give newcomers an overview of the maritime sector. Keynote speakers include Michael Westhagemann, Senator for Economics, Claudia Müller, the German government's Co-ordinator for Maritime Affairs and Tourism, and the European Commission's representative, Kestutis Sadauskas, Deputy Director-General "Maritime Affairs and Fisheries" (DG MARE). Various panels will give delegates an overview of funding opportunities and innovations for start-ups and scale-ups

Wind power and protection for container ships

The Hasytec start-up has developed a solution using ultrasound and AI that prevents organic and inorganic deposits from building up on surfaces like ship walls. That has the potential to reduce both CO2 emissions and the need for heavy metal.  Meanwhile, the Skysails Power start-up has come up with automatically steered kites to harness winds at heights of up to 400 metres.

Counselling for start-ups

The event is being organised jointly by the European Commission, Hamburg's Ministry for Economics, Hamburg Invest and the Hamburgische Investitions- und Förderbank, among others. "Blue Invest for the Baltic" offers start-ups meetings with international investors, which can be arranged before and during the event. Interested founders can apply for individual coaching and networking with investors. More information can be found on the website.
