Hamburger Hochbahn to install 200 self-service points by mid 2021

12 October 2020
Launch on U3 - mobile phone and credit card payments possible with latest vending machines

Hamburger Hochbahn is rolling out the latest generation of self-service terminals from mid October, according to a press release issued in September. All 25 stations on the U3 underground line and four stations on the U4 line between the main station and Elbbrücken will be equipped with around 50 new-generation ticket vending machines. Customers can look forward to large screens, user-friendly operation and cashless payment with either a credit card or mobile phone and cash as well. Around half of HVV's vending machines will have been converted by mid 2021 at a cost of some EUR 7.5 million.

HVV focusing on cashless payments

Narrower "cashless" versions of the terminals will be installed in HVV's service points at the main station and in Barmbek. Hochbahn has a total of 400 ticket machines. A decision will be reached in 2021 about converting the remaining machines. Online ticket sales per HVV App, HVV Switch App and in the online shop are steadily increasing, the company said. The new terminals and services are the result of a development project involving staff in various departments at Hochbahn.
