The optician chain store is becoming one of the first firms to reap the rewards of the trend towards smart glasses at work. Fielmann and Ubimax will help corporate customers choose hardware, to measure and adjust smart glasses and to train staff. The collaboration would make Fielmann the "first provider to offer the complete range of services relating to smart glasses", said Marc Fielmann, Chairman of the Management Board of Fielmann AG. Employees can have their eyesight tested, measured and glasses fitted in any of Fielmann’s 800 shops. A "leading B2B platform for smart glasses" will also be set up.

The Hamburg-based Fielmann Ventures is taking a 10 per cent stake in the Bremen-based Ubimax, a leading provider of augmented reality-based wearable computing solutions, a press release said Wednesday (May 20, 2020). The start-up will put the fresh capital towards expanding its market leadership position while Fielmann will drive its digitization strategy 2025.

Smart glasses with software solutions "are already increasing productivity in manufacturing and logistics at hundreds of companies worldwide, improving quality control, reducing error rates in plant maintenance and automating complex processes through artificial intelligence," said Dr. Hendrik Witt, CEO of Ubimax. More than 400 companies including Airbus, BMW, Coca-Cola, DHL and Siemens use software solutions for smart glasses by Ubimax.
