Four Parx's space-saving, flagship project opens near port

The two-storey logistics property "Mach 2" project opened Wednesday (September 15, 2022) near the Port of Hamburg. Developed by Four Parx, the AEW asset manager and general contractor GSE, the 123,000 square metre-building on the grounds of the former Refresco factory features electrohydraulic dock levellers and two ramps for using lorries on the upper floor.

Business model to boost economic growth in metropolitan region

"The opening of 'Mach2' as a first two-storey logistics property is another part of positioning and enhancing Hamburg's image as a responsible, forward-looking and innovative city," said Michael Westhagemann, Senator for Economics. As the leading logistics region in northern Europe, Hamburg is the ideal location for this new business model, he added. Dr Rolf Strittmatter, Managing Director of Hamburg Invest, noted: "Full occupancy has already been achieved and shows that innovative, sustainable and space-efficient solutions in Hamburg are being accepted by the market and are making a valuable contribution to economic growth in the metropolitan region."

Ecological building - full occupancy achieved in July

However, the project was subject to a complex planning permission project before it could get underway. During construction, ground conditions near the port posed a challenge. Yet, Four Parx announced full occupancy in July 2022, which send a positive signal given the increasing demand for commercial urban space. Airbus will move into the ground floor while the upper floor is occupied by Jysk furniture, Bechtele IT system provider and the Picnic online food retailer. The project is an ecologic building and features a unique facade.
