The ZAL TechCenter has launched the WiNDroVe project to promote drones for commercial purposes in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region, a press release said Tuesday (July 4, 2017). The network, located in the “Innovation Forum”, is funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research and will analyse framework conditions for the commercial use of so-called Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) during the coming months.
Many fields of application for drones in Hamburg
Regulatory framework conditions that do not outline the use of drones have yet to be aligned with aviation regulations. The lack of such framework conditions is presently the biggest obstacle to drones for commercial purposes. Hamburg has many established commercial sectors such as logistics, aviation and renewable energies where drones could be used to do maintenance on wind turbines or in construction. Many tasks could be done faster and more affordably.
Conference in late 2017
The official start of the project on June 30, 2017 saw 34 representatives of 20 institutions come together in ZAL Tech Centre. The WiNDroVe committee will be divided into various working groups in the coming months. Their results will be presented during a two-day conference in late 2017 in ZAL Tech Centre .
