Winter timetable goes in operation at Hamburg Airport

Ten direct flights depart from Hamburg to popular destinations - Ryanair closes base

Hamburg Airport’s new winter flight schedule goes into operation Sunday until next March (October 27, 2019 – March 28, 2020). A total of 53,000 flights or 330 per day have been scheduled for winter 2019/2020 meaning flight numbers have remained steady over 2018. Around 60 airlines will offer passengers a choice of 130 destinations from Hamburg.

Higher frequency on existing airlines

“Our new winter flight schedule starts when clocks go back. Thanks to the diverse routes, our passengers can fly quickly and comfortably to sunny destinations in winter or travel to Europe’s most beautiful ski slopes in just a few hours,” said Dr. Jörgen Kearsley, Head of Aviation Marketing at Hamburg Airport. Passengers can also look forward to more choice on existing routes. Ryanair will operate a flight to Gdansk in Poland three times a week from October 27, 2019 while Eurowings will fly daily to Oslo. Pegasus Airlines is flying to Istanbul-Sabiha Gökçen ten times a week up from seven flights. The attractive city is a tourist magnet and Istanbul’s airport is a crucial connecting hub for passengers to Central Asia and the Middle East.

Flights to ski resorts – Ryanair closing base in Hamburg

Ten destinations in the winter timetable are near ski resorts. Flights are being offered to Innsbruck, Salzburg, Basel, Geneva and Munich. Many airlines allow passengers to bring ski equipment aboard and the costs are included in the ticket price subject to availability. Ryanair is due close its base at Hamburg Airport on January 8, 2020 marking the end for two permanently stationed aircraft and the loss of its Hamburg-based employees. The airline will be flying to 17 destinations from Hamburg this winter and will offer 14 destinations from summer 2020. Hamburg Airport now seeks to restore connections on the routes vacated by Ryanair.
