The United Arab Emirates airline, Emirates, has operated a non-stop service from Hamburg to Dubai since 2006. Since it began, around 11,380 flights have been flown with an estimated 2.86 million passengers. And the number of passengers arriving in Hamburg from the Arab Gulf states increased by over 27 per cent last year.
150 transfer flights
More and more Arab nationals are travelling to Hamburg on business, family holidays and for medical care, according to Hamburg Airport. Some 68 per cent of passengers on Emirates’ flights flew to Dubai to catch around 150 transfer flights. Bangkok is the most popular transfer destination from Hamburg via Dubai. The direct flight to Dubai is of equal interest to both holidayers and buiness travellers.
Michael Eggenschwiler, CEO of Hamburg Airport, said: “The twice daily, non-stop flight to Dubai with the Boeing 777-300 means Hamburg Airport is optimally connected to Emirates’ international hub that offers our passengers transfers to 54 countries in Asia, Australia and Africa.” The ongoing success of the Dubai connection shows that Hamburg has a promising market for long-haul connections, he noted.
Thierry Antinori, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of Emirates, added: “The Hanseatic city counts among the most important destinations in our global flight network. And since it began in 2006, we have had a healthy usage – in both directions.”
