Lufthansa Technik has developed the new digital Seat Cover Tool for identifying seat cover part numbers, a press release said Monday (November 19, 2018). This latest application is being used for cabin maintenance work on the Lufthansa Airbus A380 fleet. Designed for both mobile and stationary use, it is compatible with all current PCs and iOS-based devices such as iPads and iPhones.
Saves maintenance hours
Until now, the entire process – from finding dirty or damaged seat covers, cushions or belts and identifying the part number to ordering and replacing the component – was manual. But the Seat Cover Tool allows Lufthansa Technik to digitalise the identification of the correct component and partly automated the overall process. Cabin mechanics now save lots of time on passenger seat maintenance.
Expansion in 2019
Stefan Mehler, Project Manager at Lufthansa Technik, said:“With Seat Cover Tool, the part numbers of seat covers that need replacing can now be identified more quickly and easily. We’ve managed to reduce the respective process time from six minutes to less than one minute. In addition, the application is very simple to use and identifies every seat cover part number reliably.” The Seat Cover Tool will be rolled out to other seat parts and all common aircraft types in 2019. Pending the results of tests, Lufthansa Technik will make the tool availalbe to other MRO companies for a fee.
