Lufthansa Technik presents new cabin products at AIX

Innovations for warm feet and charged smartphones in cabin

Lufthansa Technik is presenting two innovative cabin products at this year’s Aircraft Interiors Expo underway from April 2-4, 2019. The company’s HeatNOW system for floor panels is easily installed and maintained and its three smart options for USB charging give passengers in-flight power.

Cosy warm feet

Cold cabin floors become a thing of past with HeatNOW. Lufthansa Technik and engineers at the Austrian company, Villinger, have developed a brand new approach to floor panel heating with a self-regulating, heated coating. Its internal electrical resistance rises in higher temperatures. This avoids hot spots and possible damages resulting from thermal effects. Layers of carbon fibre protect both sides of the heated coating. Thanks to the heating pad’s thin and flexible design, it can be removed and exchanged easily.

USB plugs installed overhead or attached to the seat

Passengers on both short and long haul flights need to be able to recharge laptops, smartphones and tablets. Lufthansa Technik is now offering three solutions for USB charging either installed in the overhead panel or attached to the seat, while the latter option also offers additional revenue possibilities. The first solution is easily installed in the overhead panel and uses the untapped energy of reading lights. Additional installations are unnecessary making the innovation some 50 per cent lighter than rival products. The second solution does not affect the existing aircraft seat certification (ETSO/TSO) and enables the passenger to find the USB plug easily thanks to its smart lighting. The third option gives airlines an opportunity to generate revenue by showing advertisements or letting passengers pay for recharging.
