Lufthansa Technik is launching the new “Safe Drone” initiative for minimizing uncertainties and risks in unmanned aviation, a press release said Monday (March 20). This open and transparent platform allows collaboration between all interested market players and gives them direct access to recognized standards for technology, quality and security in the use of drones. A free, basic package is available for drone pilots and service providers and their aircraft and allows them to register and become qualified and certified under the “Safe Drone Code of Conduct”. In addition to an introduction to unmanned aircraft systems, components and flight control fundamentals, participants also receive basic training in flight safety, aerodynamics and meteorology. Every participant receives a safe flyer certificate on completing the training.
Online access with checklists and information
Experts at Lufthansa Technik and Lufthansa Aviation Training compiled the contents of the free online training and took the requirements of several regional aviation authorities into consideration. This will ensure optimal awareness and competency among service providers and pilots in the safe and responsible use of their drones. Olaf Ronsdorf, a member of the project team, noted: “As members of the ‘Safe Drone’ community, registered users receive online access to checklists and up-to-date information in addition to an identification plate for their drones.” Customers also receive premium discounts when taking out liability insurance for their drones. The package will be extended continually for discerning and professional users with the inclusion of additional components.
