Lufthansa Technik and SAS to intensify co-operation

The Northern European carrier Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) and Lufthansa Technik AG from Hamburg are expanding their long-standing close partnership even further. Under a new agreement that takes effect immediately and runs through the end of 2018, Lufthansa Technik will take on more than 150 C-checks for the airline’s fleet of Boeing 737NG and Airbus A320 family aircraft. As a consequence, more than 100 aircraft will be newly added to Lufthansa Technik’s international overhaul network, in which C-checks for SAS’ fleet of Airbus A330/340 aircraft are already carried out by Lufthansa Technik Malta.

Closer networking

Checks of the Boeing 737NG and Airbus A320 aircraft will be performed primarily by Shannon Aerospace, Lufthansa Technik Group’s Irish overhaul operation, and by Lufthansa Technik Sofia. SAS and Lufthansa Technik have already been working together successfully in many areas. For example, Lufthansa Technik supports all the components needed for the entire Scandinavian Airlines fleet, for which purpose the two partners have closely linked their IT. As part of this new agreement, know-how from the workshops and from aircraft overhaul engineering will be contributed to the partnership in order to optimise maintenance layovers, workflows and logistics even more.

Cost effective operation

Knut Dissen, Vice President and NPH SAS Technical Operations: “SAS is pleased to expand the already close partnership with Lufthansa Technik to include the Boeing 737NG and Airbus A320 short haul fleet, the core fleet of our operation, and is looking forward to working closely with Lufthansa Technik over the coming period to make this an highly efficient and cost effective operation for both parties.”

August Wilhelm Henningsen, CEO of Lufthansa Technik, said: “SAS and Lufthansa Technik have already achieved substantial success in the area of efficient component supply in their existing partnership. We’re very proud of that, and now we have a common foundation for tapping further potential.”
