A total of 1,066,000 passengers landed in Hamburg in 2017, almost half of them (47per cent) on business trips, according to the “Airport Travel Survey 2018” by the ADV airport association. The representative passenger survey compared flight traffic in 2017 and 2014.
German airports popular
Demand for air traffic is increasing in Germany, the study found. Around 103.8 million passengers departed from German airports in 2014 and increased to 117.1 million in 2017. German airports are becoming increasingly popular and are being used by both “newcomers” and “transfer passengers” – an increase of 13 per cent over 2017/2014. More and more people are using public transport to journey to the airport, the study found while the proportion of passengers arriving by car and taxi is declining.
The surveys, which are conducted every three years, are initiated and accompanied by the airport association ADV in close co-operation with its member airports and the market research institute IFAK. More than 162,000 passengers from all over the world were interviewed in terminals of German airports for the Airport Travel Survey 2018.
