Hamburg Airport goes "Wacken"

Airport features photo booths, headphone party and free showers for fans of Wacken Open Air

Hamburg Airport is welcoming global heavy metal fans en route to the fifth Wacken Open Air underway from August 2-4, 2018 with the hyped up “Wacken Airport” area. Metal fans from all over the world are being welcomed at a reception area in the airport plaza with original Wacken deckchairs, headphone party and photo booths. Apart from free showers in the terminal, arriving guests can also avail of coupons from many restaurants and shops with discounted food and drinks on presentation of the festival ticket.

“We have grown very fond of the many Wacken visitors who travel to Hamburg Airport year after year,” said Katja Bromm, Head of Press and Public Relations at Hamburg Airport. “Many employees are looking forward to these days and wear the specially printed Wacken Airport shirts to welcome them.” The Wacken Open Air is one of the largest global heavy metal festivals and one of Germany’s biggest open-air festivals.

Hamburg Airport is a key transport hub for fans and bands destined for the town of Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein. Around 19,000 of over 75,000 annual visitors arrive from Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, England, France, Spain, Australia, Norway, Mexico, the U.S., Peru and Israel. Around 4,000 to 5,000 visitors fly to Hamburg and then travel onto Wacken. Several international bands will also be arriving via Hamburg Airport especially for the festival.
