The Crystal Cabin Award Association is accepting submissions for the Crystal Cabin Award 2017 until November 4th, the association announced Monday (October 10th). The winners will receive their awards during the Aircraft Interiors Expo from April 4-6, 2017 in Hamburg. The award initiated in Hamburg, proved more successful than ever with 78 submissions in 2015. This year’s winners included cabin innovations and onboard products by major players such as B/E Aerospace and Boeing, but also newcomers such as the British aircraft start-up Rebel.Aero which specialises in seats.
Prize drives innovation in sector
The specialist journalist Mary Kirby, who is also the editor of the online magazine “Runway Girl Network”, will join next year’s jury as a new member. Commenting on the significance of the award Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, said: “The Crystal Cabin Award is kind of a culmination of what defines the industry. It needed focus, it needed to bring all the entities together to a cohesive group where there would be a lot of cross-fertilisation of ideas.”
The Crystal Cabin Award is presented in eight categories: cabin concepts, cabin systems, electronic systems, greener cabin – health, safety and environment, material and components, passenger comfort-hardware, visionary concepts that give an impression of aircraft cabins in future and forward-looking submissions by university students.
This year’s winners included Boeing’s self-cleaning air cabin toilets, Rebel.Aero’s flexible folding seats for the Economy Class and “Lifestyle Cabins by Zodiac Aerospaces. An overview of the 2016 winners can be found on www.crystal-cabin-award.com. The three finalists in each category
