Hamburg Airport had a 10 per cent rise in passenger numbers (1.62 million) in June and is expecting even higher figures next month, a press release said Monday (July 17, 2017). Summer holidays are due to start in the states of Lower Saxony, Bremen, Hamburg, and Schleswig-Holstein and in Denmark at the end of July.
Improved use of aircraft
Despite the 10 per cent rise in passengers in June, the number of flight movements at Hamburg Airport remained steady compared to June 2016. The increase indicates more efficient and improved use of aircraft. Many people are now flying more often to destinations in Europe and elsewhere to visit family and friends. Brisk business is expected at the airport this summer. Janet Niemeyer, Press Officer at Hamburg Airport. “Our passengers should really heed the recommendation to be at the airport at least two hours before their departure and especially during the holiday season so that they have enough time for check-ins and security checks. If possible, passengers should take alternative transport e.g. the S1 fast train or book a parking space on our website. Only a prior reservation will guarantee you a parking space.”
130 destinations in network
Airlines are prioritising sunny, holiday destinations this summer. Around 60 airlines fly to 130 destinations from Hamburg Airport. “Whether for city trips, beach holidays or visiting families – demand for flights is high in Hamburg and the metropolitan region,” said Michael Eggenschwiler, CEO of Hamburg Airport. He added: “Our constantly growing route network offers our passengers a broad range of flights at different prices and comfort levels which will bring them to their destinations swiftly and comfortably.” A total of 14 new destinations have been added to Hamburg Airport’s network this summer.
