Experts at Lufthansa Technik VIP & Special Mission Aircraft division have developed a cabin concept for the Airbus A330 multi-role tanker transport aircraft (MRTT), a press release said Sunday (November 12, 2017). Four different configurations called “State”, “Governor”, “Rescue” and “Trooper” with new usage possibilities can be made availlable. Lufthansa Technik already has a customer for the “Governor” configuration. Around 30 A330 MRTT aircraft have been ordered or are already used by various air forces.
Aircraft for diplomats and humanitarian missions
Wieland Timm, Senior Director Sales, VIP and Special Mission at Lufthansa Technik, remarked: “Aircraft used for civil or military purposes must meet different requirements depending on the situation. We have therefore developed cabin layouts for four particularly frequent deployment scenarios, which will enable significantly more intensive and improved use of the aircraft in the future.”
The “State” and “Governor” variants have been designed to transport heads of state, government members and delegations. The “Governor” version transports larger delegations with different functions and statuses while the “Rescue” version has been developed for humanitarian aid flights and medical evacuation transports. The “Trooper” configuration is suitable for long-distance passenger or troop transport and offers maximum capacity in different classes. A small intensive care unit can be integrated in the “Trooper”, if required.
Patient Transport Unit
Lufthansa Technik is also offering its Patient Transport Unit (PTU NG) which is one of the most modern patient transport options on the market. It can be adapted to the requirements of customers and patients. The cabin variants have been developed in co-operation with military services and meet the requirements in terms of risks such as leaking emanations (NATO TEMPEST requirements). Lufthansa Technik also has a broad portfolio of technical services for the Airbus A330 MRTT that cover the entire lifecycle of the aircraft.
