Suederelbe AG has been approved as a work placement site for the cooperative degree programme “Business Development”. The collaboration will involve students completing the work placement periods of the degree with Suederelbe AG in Hamburg. “For students, this provides the optimal intermeshing between theory and practice, whilst for a company such as Suederelbe AG it presents a good opportunity for academic expertise to flow into daily operations,” explains CEO Dr Olaf Krueger, who also lectures at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) campus in Mannheim.
Business Administration, Political Economics, Law and Rhetoric
The degree programme at DHBW in Mannheim encompasses general business administration along with a broad spectrum of teaching from the fields of business development and location development, backed up by courses in political economics, municipal management, and legal studies. The programme also incorporates continual improvement of soft skills such as rhetoric, presentation techniques and intercultural communications along with skills in conflict management and project management. There is also a diverse range of corporate simulations.
Prerequisite: interest in Hamburg
Applicants should have completed their Abitur (German secondary school diploma) or the technical equivalent (“Fachabitur”) and have good grades in German, Mathematics, and English. They will also need to be interested in economics and politics, especially in relation to the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. A high level of motivation, the ability to work on one’s own initiative, and a responsible attitude are vital, as is an independent, structured approach to work. The new Business Development degree programme is educating a total of 100 students in three courses. More than 80 business development organisations from Germany, Austria and Switzerland are registered as placement partners.
