With more than a dozen sheltered mall in the inner city alone, Hamburg is the German capital of shopping arcades. Now,another gem will be added to its impressive collection: Kaisergalerie. Partially opened since a few days, it is located in a heritage listed building erected 1907-1909 at Große Bleichen 23-27, for many years home of famous Ohnsorg-Theatre.
Luxury shopping & waterfront pleasures
After the folk theatre’s relocation to premises near central station in 2011, the empty area had been converted into 3,400 sqm of attractive retail space for premium brands. On its total length of 82.50 metres, 14 luxury boutiques will be opened, including, inter alia, Escada, Unger, and Braun as fashion store plus Gärtner, a Hamburg classic for upmarket, design-oriented furniture. 20 million euro have been invested into the revitalisation of an architectural icon.
Kaisergalerie features many well-preserved original stylistic elements such as pillars in classical style, coffered ceilings, and paneling, which will be integrated into a new retail concept and provide the arcade with a unique charm and identity. Connecting the highly frequented shopping street Große Bleichen to Bleichenfleet, also a new footbridge will be built at the water’s edge of Kaisergalerie. Later in autumn, pedestrians will be able to wander along the Bleichenfleet canal from “Alte Post” to Kaisergalerie and further up to the “Stadthöfe”, another project recently fully refurbished and upgraded.
