Head of Hamburg's Liasion Office in Shanghai scoops "Magnolia Silver Award"

Honour for expanding contacts in port sector

The head of the Hamburg Liaison Office Shanghai (HLO), Lars Anke, has been honoured with the city’s annual “Magnolia Silver Award” for his outstanding efforts in commerce, and international relations, a press release said. Shanghai’s municipal government also honoured HLO’s efforts and especially the role of the Hanse city in Expo 2010 in the Chinese city and expanding contacts in the port sector.

Great contribution to international relations

Zhang Xiaosong, Director General of the Shanghai Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, presented Anke with the award. A total of 50 guests from 18 countries received medals, certificates and the magnificent prize named after the yulan magnolia. Shanghai’s great development would not have been possible without their support and active involvement, said Zhang Xiaosong. Anke, a Sinologist, historian and political scientist, was appointed head of HLO in 2006. Considered a symbol of purity in the Tang Dynasty, the magnolia was planted in the grounds of the Emperor’s palace. It is the official flower of Shanghai.
