In the presence of Katharina Fegebank, Hamburg Minister for Science, Research, and Equality, and more than 100 guests, the Technical University Hamburg (TUHH) officially inaugurated its new east wing. Covering more than 800 square metres, the annex houses students learning and communication spaces, a multifunctional bicycle workshop, a kitchen and a café. The reconstruction of TUUHH’s main building at the Schwarzenberg-Campus has thus been completed.
New Facilities For The Growing University
“The new east wing of our main building creates new premises necessary for our growing university”, said Prof. Garabed Antranikian, President of TUHH. “I am very pleased to be able to meet the needs of the of the increasing numbers of students at TUHH.” TUHH today boasts more than 6,700 students. Next to rooms for student study groups and self-managed, student working groups, the east wing houses a multifunctional bicycle repair shops, a kitchen for the vegan cooking group, as well as a student-operated in-house café with drinks at cost price. “The new premises allow us to implement new ideas”, Labiba Ahmed, chairman of the General Student Committee (AStA) TUHH, rejoiced. Also at home at the east wing are offices, a multifunctional meeting room, and the Alumni Centre.
The construction cost of roughtly 4.2 million euro were financed by the TUHH from surpluses of previous years.
