Commerce in Hamburg deepens partnership with Dubai

Delegation of firms led by Chamber of Commerce visits UAE. More co-operation in SMM. Arab Health and Expo 2020 planned.

Hamburg’s Chamber of Commerce has renewed its 2008 strategic partnership agreement with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) on the occasion of the Dubai Hamburg Business Forum (20.-24.3.). Both chambers seek to deepen co-operation at the Dubai Hamburg Business Forum, at the maritime trade fair SMM, the ARAB Health medical fair and between the University of Dubai and the Hamburg School of Business Administration (HSBA). Closer collaboration is also planned as part of Expo 2020 in Dubai. Fritz Horst Melsheimer, Chamber of Commerce President, is heading a delegation from Hamburg and has expressed hopes of making several new contacts and sealing business deals for Hamburg-based firms at the huge event. Plans are also underway to include Hamburg in the German pavilion at the Expo.

Milestones: non-stop flight & Dubai Hamburg Business Forum

In his welcoming speech at the Dubai Hamburg Business Forum, Melsheimer recalled milestones in the cities’ bilateral relations. The Chamber of Commerce’s office in Dubai and the senate are celebrating their tenth anniversaries this year as well as the non-stop flight between Dubai and Hamburg. He noted: “Only a year later, both our chambers established the Dubai-Hamburg Business Forum.” Other milestones in co-operation include the strategic partnership agreement between both chambers (2008), opening the Health Care Industry Service Centre (2012), a Memorandum of Understanding with Dubai’s maritime industry as well as its participation in SMM, and Hamburg and northern German’s attendance at the Arab Health fair. Last January, 56 exhibitors from the Hamburg metropolitan region took part in the fair.

Internet of things – innovation to connect

This year’s Business Forum is being held under the theme of “The internet of things – innovation to connect” with special emphasis on the potential and challenges of digitalisation. Several Hamburg-based start-ups will also attend the event.
