Northern Germany’s tourism industry can look back on a successful summer and is optimistic about the future. In spring 2014, the hospitality industry in Northern Germany reported very positive figures, and by the end of the year, the business climate index of the North German hospitality industry is reached 124.3 points compared to 116.8 point in spring 2014.
“It was an exceptional summer, and not only for the fans of German soccer”, says Friederike C. Kuhn, president of the Chamber of Commerce IHK North e. V. and President of the Chamber of Commerce of Lübeck. “Our Hospitality in Northern Germany recorded a peak in the economic climate index”. In view of the upcoming season, the majority of members expect a their business to continue to perform on the same level.
Positive Mood Prevails
This is the result of the latest market report presented by the chamber of commerce IHK Nord e.V. Its survey is based on the results and answers of 1,200 member companies for the evaluation period May to October 2014. According to these data, the tourism climate index continued to rise in 2014 and even exceeded 2011’s record result of 5.3 points. The sector of travel agents, tour operators and bus companies lost during the assessment period 13 points, and is currently reporting a positive value of 116.6 index points.
Ranging between 0 and 200 index points, The calculated economic climate index reflects the industry’s mood and performance. According to the survey, the search for qualified staff is one the industry’s major challenges.
