Mein Schiff 6 to be launched in front of Elbphilharmonie

Outstanding launch of TUI's Mein Schiff 6 against magnificent Elbphilharmonie backdrop

The port of Hamburg is set to host even more spectacular cruise ship events this summer following the anniversary celebrations in early May. The launch of TUI Cruises Mein Schiff 6 Thursday against the magnificent backdrop of the Elbphilharmonie is the latest spectacle. The ship’s sponsor is Iveta Apkalna, organist at the Elbphilharmonie. The Latvian artist performs as a soloist in world famous concert halls and at music festivals across the globe.

Launch to be streamed live on Facebook

The TUI Cruises web site will set up a hyperlink to a live stream of the launching ceremony on Facebook from around 10 pm. The ceremony and the traditional smashing of champagne bottles will be followed by a huge fireworks display at around 10.45 pm. Surfers are advised to go online early.

Holidays on the high seas

Mein Schiff 6 is around 300 metres in length and 36 metres in width. The ship has 15 decks with 1,267 cabins and space for 2,534 passengers. TUI Cruises is part of TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. The company is based in Hamburg and has been offering holidays on the high seas since May 2009 for the German-speaking market.

Cruise shipping highlights in 2017

From September 1 to 10, 2017, the port of Hamburg will again be transformed into a giant stage for major cruise events. Hamburg will bundling its cruise events and welcoming both the public and industry experts for ten days. The highlights of the events include the Hamburg Cruise Days (September 8-10), Europe’s largest public cruise event; Seatrade Europe (September 6-8) – Europe’s meeting point for the cruise industry; the trade congress fvw Cruise Live (September 8), as well as two events organised by CLIA (September 5–6), the world’s largest cruise association. Throughout the events, the port will again be illuminated and transformed into the Blue Port Hamburg by lighting artist Michael Batz (September 1-10).
