Hamburg's New Hotels

International investors are attracted by Hamburg's dynamic hotel market. With the Westin and "The Fontenay", two luxury hotels are to open in 2016/17

International investors will be investing more than one billion euro into new hotels in Hamburg, the Hamburg Tourism Board says. In 2015, the **** Reichshof Hamburg Curio by Hilton with 500 beds in 278 rooms, the Ramada **** Hamburg City Center with 508 beds in 254 rooms and the **** Hapimag Resort Hamburg with 76 beds 40 rooms will be entering Hamburg’s dynamic hotel market. In total, 31 new hotels with 4,800 rooms are scheduled to open in Hamburg in the next few years.

World Class Luxury Hotel

In summer 2016, the luxury hotel “The Fontenay” will open its doors at the Alster lake in the Rotherbaum district. By investing more than 100 million euro into a luxury suite hotel with a Michelin-starred restaurant, the Hamburg entrepreneur Klaus-Michael Kuehne is realising a lifelong dream in his home town. He wants his new five-star hotel to sit at the top of the German luxury hotel industry, and to to make it a magnet for international guests. The hotel is currently being built in Hamburg based on plans by Störmer Murphy and Partners in collaboration with the Milan designer Matteo Thun. A logistics billionaire, Kühne knows how successfully implement such large projects. He has already proven it on the Balearic isle of Majorca, where he restored the old “Castell Son Claret” and transformed it into a five-star hotel with a Michelin star restaurant.

US Flagship Hotel to Reside in the New Elbe Philharmonic Hall

Just in time for the opening concert of the Elbe Philharmonic Hall on January 11, 2017, the US chain Starwood Hotels & Resorts plans to open its Westin flagship hotel in Hamburg’s new concert hall. The luxury hotel’s initerior was designed by bost Group Berlin, which decorated all 244 rooms and public areas along the subjects of sand, water and air – the wave, for instance, is found again on furniture, wall decorations and the lighting and carpet design, while all wood looks ocean-washed and weathered in surface and structure.

Following numerous low-budget hotel openings of recent years, investors are now focusing on middle class hotels and accommodation offers for discerning guests. Among the ten new store openings planned for 2016, only one two star hotel (B & B Hotel City Ost (Berliner Tor) can be found, with evenLidl investing in the three-star segment with its hotel at Beatlesplatz.
