Hamburg ranks among top three international cities

Hamburg is only German city in Smart Meetings' ranking - Elbphilharmonie, fairgrounds and St. Pauli are key to success

The Smart Meetings travel and event magazine has ranked Hamburg among the top three global cities ahead of London, Sydney and Singapore, according to a report on March 2. The Mexican city of Cabo San Lucas on the Pacific Ocean topped the list followed by Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Hamburg is the only German city on the list.

Elbphilharmonie – tourist draw

Smart Meetings lauded the Elbphilharmonie as Hamburg’s “funky, edgy, architecturally innovative … calling card” which has propelled the city into third position. The report mentions two concert halls and a 360-degree view of the city. It added: “Every visitor to Hamburg must see and experience this European architectural masterpiece.” The concert hall is certainly proving a vistor magnet and so far 12,000 people have flocked to HafenCity every day to see the spectacular Elbphilharmonie, the view of the harbour and the Speicherstadt since the opening of the plaza in November 2016. The one-millionth visitor was welcomed on February 24.

St. Pauli and Congress Center Hamburg

The magazine also highlighted the Congress Center Hamburg (CCH) as a hot convention centre which is presently being redesigned and expanded by 12,000 square metres of exhibition space, 12,000 square metres of lobby space and 12,000 seats in up to 50 halls. In 2019, it will count among Europe’s biggest convention centres. The funky district of St. Pauli and the famous Reeperbahn with numerous theatres, clubs, bars and restaurants is easily one of the most talked about attractions in Hamburg, according to Smart Meetings online magazine.
