Hamburg to Expand Hotel Capacities

International investors appreciate Hamburg's hotel market. 31 new hotels with over 4,800 rooms to open in the next few years

According to the Hamburg Tourism Board, more than one billion euros will be invested by foreigners into new hotels in Hamburg. Following the opening of the revamped Reichshof Hamburg Curio by Hilton, two more hotels in top locations will be opening their doors in 2015: RAMADA Hotel Hamburg City Center on 15 October 2015, and the Hapimag Resort Hamburg on 29 October 2015.

Luxury Hotel at the Outer Alster Lake

In autumn 2016, the luxury hotel “The Fontenay” will be welcoming first guests at the outer Alster lake in the Rotherbaum district. By investing more than 100 million euro into a first-class hotel, the Hamburg entrepreneur Klaus-Michael Kuehne is realising one of his lifelong dreams. Currently being built along the designs of the architectural firm Störmer Murphy and Partners in collaboration with the Milan designer Matteo Thun, Kuehne wants his five-star property to top the ranking of German luxury hospitality, and make his hometown an even stronger magnet for international guests.

US Flagship in the Elbe Philharmonic Hall

Just in time for the opening concert of the Elbe Philharmonic Hall on 11 January 2017, the US chain Starwood Hotels & Resorts plans to open its new Westin flagship hotel in Hamburg’s new concert hall. Designed by the bost group berlin, the design of the hotel with 244 rooms is linked to the themes of sand, water and air. The shape of the wave is also being picked up by, for example, furniture, wall decorations, lights, and carpet design. The surface of furniture is reminiscent of weathered wood, which has been lying in the river water.

After the numerous low-budget hotel openings of recent years, investors are now focusing on middle class hotel and houses for discerning guests. Among the ten new hotel openings planned for 2016, there is only a two-star hotel.
