Also in 2015, Hamburg will be promoting its assets as one of Europe’s leading ports of cruise from 11 to 13 September, with the Hamburg Cruise Days turning the port into a stage for true dream vessels. For three days, cruising will be celebrated with seven cruise ships on the water and a cruise mile stretching the Elbe river for more than four kilometres. Next to the large ship parade, highlights will include fireworks and the impressive lighting project “Blue Port Hamburg”.
Enthusiasm for cruise ships continues unabated
With 158 arrivals in 2015 and an expected passenger volume of 525,000 cruise passengers, the world heritage city Hamburg confirms itself as a hotspot of cruising in Europe. A third new passenger terminal inaugurated in May at Kronprinzkai now offers even more capacities for the growing number of passengers. The enthusiasm for the great ocean liner is unbroken. Set up in 2008 to celebrate the fascination of cruise, the Hamburg Cruise Days will be held for the fifth time this year.
This year, seven cruise ships will be mooring in the Port of Hamburg: MS AIDAbella (AIDA Cruises), MS Amadea (Phoenix Reisen), MS Costa neoRomantica (Costa Cruises), MS EUROPA (Hapag-Lloyd Cruises), MS Mein Schiff 4 (TUI Cruises), MS MSC Splendida (MSC Cruises) and MS Queen Mary 2 (Cunard Line).
Entertaining Programme on Land
On land, the cruise theme will be brought alive by a four kilometres long trail along the harbour’s edge from HafenCity Hamburg to Altona. Ten theme islands will entertain strollers with live performances of musicals on stage, gastronomy, health and fitness facilities, maritime shopping and events hosted by shipping companies.
“Hamburg welcomes you on board”
From 4 to 13 September 2015, the Hanseatic city will be combining for the first time several big cruise events under the motto “Hamburg welcomes you on board” and showcases aspects of cruising not only to the general public, but also to industry professionals. Next to the Hamburg Cruise Days, events in the ten-day long focus on cruise will include Seatrade Europe (9-11 Sept.) – Europe’s leading exhibition for the cruise industry, the congress fvw Cruise Live, and two specialized events of the world’s largest cruise association CLIA (8/9 Sept. and 11 Sept.). Numerous co-operation partners from trade, catering, hotel industry and port industry will complement the programme in the cruise capital Hamburg.
