Gault-Millau and Michelin Praise Hamburg's Chefs

Christian Rüffer of Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten named "Chef of the Year 2015" by Gault-Millau. Eight restaurants recognised with Michelin stars

Hamburg is a mecca of fine dining and a culinary heaven, say the critics of the world’s leading gourmet bibles Michelin and Gault-Millau that recently presented their 2015 editions.

Chef of the Year 2015 is a Hamburg Cook

Two-starred Christian Rütter, who missed the third Michelin star just by a mere hair’s breadth, was recompensed by Gault-Millau’s distinction as “Chef of the Year 2015”. The 41-year old cook has been the chef of the Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten’s Haerlin Restaurant for the past twelve years. The stylish dining place is one of Germany’s leading gourmet restaurants and was awarded 4 ½ „F“ in August by Germany’s fine-dining magazine DER FEINSCHMECKER. Now, Rütter’s food was rated with 19 out of a possible 20 points in Gault-Millau. The testers of the influential restaurant guide called his “profound aromatic creations that bring along new experiences and sensations with bite and fill the guest’s mouth with pleasures even when the plates have been cleared away” perhaps the greatest talent of Rüffers.

Hamburg’s Top Chefs Once Again Highly Praised

The second rank of the culinary hit parade by Gault-Millau was successfully defended by Wahabi Nouri. The native Moroccan and chef of the intimate “Piment” restaurant was honoured with once again 18 points for his cuisine “characterized by improvisation talent and modesty, unfolding beautifully on everyday foods. Karlheinz Hauser and Marcel Goerke from the “Seven Seas” at Süllberg and Thomas Martin from “Jacobs” in Nienstedten war both granted 17 points. 16 points were successfully confirmed by Ali Güngörmüs of “Le Canard nouveau” Anna Sgroi at “Anna Sgroi” in Poeseldorf, and Heinz Otto Wehmann at “Landhaus Scherrer”. In total, 27 restaurants were rated in Hamburg. 25 chefs were given one or more of hats. Next to well-known names, they include newcomers like Kirill Kinfeit from “Trüffelschwein” (truffle pig) in Winterhude (15 points) and Sebastian Brugger from “Clouds” in St. Pauli, who convinced the testers with “a mix of home cooking and France” (13 points).

Eight Michelin-Starred Restaurants in Hamburg

In its 2015 edition on sale since 7 November, Michelin honoured eight Hamburg restaurants with stars. Three restaurants were granted two stars for their chef’s culinary excellence. They include Karlheinz Hauser, chef of “Seven Seas” at Süllberg, Thomas Martin of Restaurant Jacobs and Haerlin’s Christian Rüffer. Anna Sgroi from “AnnaSgroi” at Poeseldorf, Heinz O. Wehmann at Landhaus Scherrer, Ali Güngörmüs at Le Canard Nouveau aand Wahabi Nouri at Piment also confirmed their star.
