The NDR Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Thomas Hengelbrock, will give the opening concert in the Grand Hall of the Elbphilharmonie on 11 and 12 January 2017. The last phase of the construction and planning concerts have just begun. The opening concert will be the same on both days and tickets will be available not only for invited guests, but also for Hamburg residents, national and international concert audiences, said the Hamburger Cultural Authority.
A building for everyone
Prof. Barbara Kisseler, Hamburg’s Senator of Culture said: “There is huge interest in the Elbphilharmonie. A house for everyone is being built in the heart of Hamburg – for children who may be making their first contact with music, for music fans who will make unforgettable experiences here and for all those who just want to enjoy the mag-nificent view from the Plaza. Apart from invited guests, we wish to give as many Hamburg citizens as possible, as well as guests from Germany and abroad the opportunity to get to know the concert hall.” It is due to be handed over to the City of Hamburg this autumn.
Overall programme to be published in April
In November, the doors of the Plaza will open and forms a public space between the historic and the new part of the iconic building in the Port of Hamburg. General and Artistic Director Christoph Lieben-Seutter and his associates in the Hamburg orchestras will soon complete the programme for the opening of the Elbphilharmonie: He said: “Our plans for the first months in the Elbphilharmonie are as spectacular and as multi-coloured as the fireworks during the port anniversary. We will announce the entire programme in April and the first tickets will go on sale in June.”
