Shell inaugurated its state-of-the-art Shell Technology Centre this Tuesday at ten clock in the presence of Hamburg’s First Mayor Olaf Scholz. In the past two years, the German laboratory of Shell has been expanded into the global center of expertise for fuels, lubricants, marine & power as well as engine, transmission and vehicle tests.
The three-story multi-purpose building erected by Bilfinger with a gross floor space of 2,500 square metres houses laboratories and office space, a modern workshop with engine dynamometers, and a visitor area with a showroom under its roof. Certified with silver according to the international sustainability standard LEED, several terraces and a green roof are also key features. To erect the new laboratory, 60,000 sqaure metres of land were taken from the adjacent refinery. In addition, all existing laboratories and test beds have been extensively rebuilt and modernised. The foundation stone for the new building was laid on September 28, the topping-out ceremony followed a year later. With the expansion of Shell’s traditional site in Hamburg, new jobs were created. In addition to the existing 230 employees, 60 other professionals were hired, working mainly of innovative fuels and lubricants.
