With intelligent IT, the infrastructure in the port of Hamburg is particularly efficient in control and use.
smart port of Hamburg: Nautical Center Is Testing Interactive Surveyor’s Table
Following last year’s inauguration of Hamburg’s new nautical HQ as one of the most advanced traffic control centers in the world, the vision of smart port is turning into reality by the testing of an interactive surveyor’s table that may replace conventional chart tables. The new tool allows to view the water depth in the entire port, to study certain port areas in detail, and to present water depths at different tides. Moreover, the contours of ships can be inserted and moved around in the cards.
Faster With SPL
After two years of testing, HPA, German Telekom, and SAP released their joint “smart port logistics” (SPL) project for official use. The IT solution allows companies, partners and customers of the port to communicate with each other through the network and custom-tailour their processes in real time. During the pilot phase, the participating forwarders were able to increase their productivity by significantly reducing waiting times by more than twelve percent. SPL uses as a basis a comprehensive IT platform that is combined with mobile applications, i.e. apps. Thus, up-to-date and predictive information on traffic in the port can also be accessed with mobile devices such as tablet PCs, smartphones, and telematics units installed in the truck driver’s cabin.
