An app named FreeDee by Interact Lab UG was announced Tuesday as winner of the “Best App” contest by the Chamber of Commerce. The prize is worth EUR 5,000 in cash. 3D software turns the app on smart phones into a controller making it easier to use a computer. “Patchie” by Birds and Trees UG also won a prize of EUR 5,000. However, the beta app is not yet available free of charge. The app supports the care of children and youths with cystic fibrosis. An independent jury of experts chose the winners.
Speaking to 250 guests at the awards ceremony in the Albert Schäfer Hall, Prof. Hans-Jörg Schmidt-Trenz, Managing Director of the Chamber of Commerce, said: “109 entries by talented developers, start-ups and established firms in the Hanse city show that Hamburg as a location for apps is particularly vibrant,” adding, “We are delighted by the broad range of apps in finance, trade, industry, health and right up to tourism.” Prizes worth EUR 1,000 were awarded in four categories:
- Best School Pupils Project: “GOApp” by Jacob Zhang is an app for schoolchildren, parents and teachers at the “Gymnasium Oberalster” in Sasel. The app draws up individual timetables.
- Best Contribution – Finances: “Tabbt” by Tabbt GmbH is an app for sending money safely to friends and making payments. The app uses a special security concept.
- Beste Contribution – Media: “Foodguide” by Foodguide APP UG Malte Steiert is a social network for food. Users can track down, order and reserve new kinds of food in their area online.
- Bester Contribution– Tourism: “Jourist Bildwörterbuch” by Jourist Verlags GmbH is a pictorial dictionary with sounds. The dictionary is available in many languages and makes it easier to learn, pronounce words and look up all kinds of concepts.
