Exxon inaugurates a new European technology centre in Hamburg

Hamburg, a strategic choice. Companies announced to train promising young chemists.

ExxonMobil has opened a new European Products Technology Center in Hamburg, Germany, its first in Europe. The new centre is designed to enhance collaboration with key European Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and Equipment Builders (EB) while making ExxonMobil’s extensive global lubricants technology resources even more accessible in Europe. The European centre, located at ESSO Deutschland GmbH’s campus, is ExxonMobil’s latest lubricants products technology and research facility. ExxonMobil’s primary Products Technology Center is located in Paulsboro, N.J., USA.

Training platform for the next generation

The new centre will serve as an extension of ExxonMobil’s U.S. research and development operations, its location will enable engineers to work more closely with automotive, aviation, marine and industrial equipment manufacturers to conduct field testing and proof of performance in Europe. It will work closely with ExxonMobil’s facility in Paulsboro, N.J. and with third-party test labs. Also, it will allow Exxon’s HR team to take advantage of the engineering talent at Europe’s top universities and use the European Products Technology Center as a platform for training the next generation of technical experts and leaders.

Traditional ties

In 1914, a group of engineers, who later became ExxonMobil’s Equipment Builder team, gathered in Hamburg to discuss lubricants for what would become some of the world’s most recognised innovations including steam engines, the Ford Model T, air conditioners and even large ships that would ultimately travel through the newly opened Panama Canal.him
