On 29 January 1365, the privilege of holding trade fairs was granted to Hamburg by Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV. That makes Hamburg the oldest trade fair city in Germany. With a series of events, Hamburg’s municipal trade fair organiser Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH (HMC) will be celebrating the Hanseatic city’s role as an important global market place with 650 years of history in the jubilee year.
