New concept of "oooh! Messe Freizeitwelten" proves a hit

73,000 visitors at four fairs to delight of organisers and exhibitors

The new concept behind “oohh! Die FreizeitWelten” by Hamburg Messe from February, which saw four fairs held under one roof from February 7-11, 2018, has proven immensely popular and attracted over 73,000 visitors. The Reisen Hamburg, Kreuzfahrtwelt HAMBURG, Caravaning Hamburg and Rad Hamburg fairs offered visitors a mix of adventure, information and meetings.

Trend towards camping holidays

Every second visitor to Reisen Hamburg expressed interest in city trips – which was lower than the 60 per cent shown in 2017, a survey found. However, interest in camping holidays has risen 37 per cent and was confirmed by many camping site providers at the fair. Interest in hiking and cycling holidays remained at the 2017 levels of 34 per cent, followed by cruise holidays 27 per cent, adventure holidays 25 per cent.

Holidays and cruises

Princess Benedikte of Denmark opened REISEN HAMBURG and toured the country’s large exhibition area afterwards. Mads Schreiner, Managing Director of Visit Denmark, said: “Our participation in Reisen Hamburg as partner country was a great success. During the first days, we noticed keen interest among visitors and that rose considerably again at the weekend.” The boom in the cruise ship sector was reflected by the great interest among visitors at the Kreuzfahrwelt Hamburg fair. A total of 15 shipyards presented their latest offers in a relaxing atmosphere complete with deckchairs and pool bars.

Caravanning and cycling

The first Caravaning Hamburg fair attracted exhibitors from Germany and abroad who presented caravans, motorhomes and tents, unusual accessories and extraordinary customised solutions in three halls. The Rad Hamburg held in a 3,600 square metre exhibition area showcased the latest models, equipment, accessories and cycling gear as well as interesting destinations. The programme also included fascinating talks by long-distance bikers such as the adventurer Peter Smolka who has travelled across Russia in the freezing cold and toured Africa in searing heat. Enthusiastic visitors tried out e-bikes and pedelecs on the test track.

The next Reisen Hamburg, Kreuzfahrtwelt Hamburg, Caravaning Hamburg and Rad Hamburg will be held from February 6-10, 2019 as part of the oohh! Die FreizeitWelten” fairs.
