South by Southwest (SXSW), the world’s biggest international digital, media and music conference takes place in Austin, Texas from March 11-20. Backed by Airbnb, EY and Xing, Hamburg will be represented in Texas with a “Music, Interactive, Film & Love“-themed conference and networking programme.
Carsten Brosda, State Councillor for Culture, Media and Digital Affairs in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, said: “The SXSW is the biggest international stage for the digital, creative scene. Our presence is in support of Hamburg-based companies and their bids to reach international audiences with their solutions. Hamburg offers a very good environment for developing technological solutions and for holding ground successfully with finalists like Sonormed: www.hamburg-news.hamburg/en/cluster/media-it/success-hamburg-start-ups-austin/ and Spherie did internationally at the SXSW Accelerator.”
Leading creative and innovative location

This year, the city is sending the Spherie start-up to compete in the new category of “Virtual Reality Technologies” with seven other finalists. “Spherie” is believed to be capable of delivering 3D data and 360 degree film footage and create unseen VR experiences. The Hamburg start-up Sonormed/Tinnitracks won the famous SXSW Accelerator in 2015.
SXSW interactive is a Mecca for tech geeks and innovators with over 30,000 professional visitors. Hamburg will be represented there with various networking and business matchmaking events. The city is also a partner to the German Haus where several German states are joining forces at SXSW. Companies are using SXSW and the various events to network and reach collaborations with international business partners and to present their companies and products as well as getting new creative ideas.
SXSW Music offers is the world’s biggest showcase festival and aims to educate and inspire musicians and professionals, Some 30,000 professional visitors attend the events in Austin. Hamburg will present networking events and showcase the city’s Reeperbahn Festival there.
